OGAP Welcomes Chris Fry as Board Member

Chris Fry earned a PhD in Cognitive Science focusing on computer models of how songbirds learn and acquire complex vocalizations. He went on to a career in the technology industry where he led engineering at Twitter, Salesforce, and Medium and currently serves as an advisor and investor in technology start-ups. An avid waterman, Chris loves being in or on the water, propelled by wind and waves.

Chris recently joined the OGAP team at Friday Harbor Labs for to support Dr. Moroz’s Apprenticeship Marine Biodiversity Through the Lens of Single-Cell Genomics helping retrofit SRV SAM to allow for more laboratory work onboard and assisting with sampling runs in the San Juan Islands.

Chris’ rare combination of academic study of neuroscience, cutting edge computer and data science and the experience of managing of complex tech operations brings enormous capability to OGAP’s team.

“Besides the challenging logistics of outfitting and campaigning research vessels and gathering extensive samples,” says Co Founder Peter Molnar “building a true genomic atlas of the oceans will require extremely complex analysis, data architecture and innovative storage and access solutions. Chris is uniquely qualified to help us build a Genome Atlas of the Oceans.”
